A good day
Today was a good day. Here are just a few reasons:
I woke up this morning to find that I could breathe, hear, speak, taste, smell, eat, walk, run, jump and go to the bathroom. I had nothing to do with it! I just woke up and, boom! I could do all of those things.
I went to work and did some pretty interesting things. I also did some pretty boring stuff. However, should I live till pay day, I expect to get a pretty nice paycheck.
I walked home tonight and it rained a bit. I saw a man carrying a beautiful yellow umbrella. I also saw some gorgeous flowers in people’s front yards on the Hill, where I live.
Now, I’m relaxing in my comfortable home. I’m eating peanuts. I’m also chatting with an old friend on the other screen.
I’m sure that my story is average to normal for the vast majority of Americans. For the majority of the world — not so much.
I give thanks to God for this day and everything in it because I have done absolutely nothing to deserve any of the good things in my life. There are kids sleeping on the street in Somalia sniffing glue to stave off hunger pangs who possess more natural intelligence, talent and drive than I have in my pinky toenail. If they’d had my opportunities they would have worked harder at them than I have done. If they had my job they’d excel in ways that I can’t. It just so happened that I’m here by the grace of God; they’re where they are –also by His grace and in his infinite wisdom. So, while I’m here I’ll praise Him and I’ll tell anyone who will read that they should give their lives to Him and praise Him too.
